Notice of After School Program Closure

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to inform you of an important change concerning our afterschool program. Due to budget constraints, low enrollment, staffing issues, the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District afterschool program will be closing permanently as of Wednesday June 5, 2024.

We understand that this news may come as a disappointment and may pose a challenge for many of our families. We assure you that this decision was not made lightly and every effort was made to explore alternative solutions before reaching this conclusion.

We are grateful for the trust and support you have shown to our afterschool program over the years. We have cherished the opportunity to engage with your children and watch them grow. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

The After School Program 

The After School Program is a happy and healthy hangout for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Depending on staffing, the Park District prepares for this program at Lake Arrowhead Elementary, Charles Hoofman Elementary (currently the CHE site has not met the minimum number of enrolled participants to open for the 2023-2024 school year), and  Valley of Enchantment Elementary students with a portable classroom directly on campus. 

The After School Program runs from school release until 5:30 pm excluding the time when children are in school. Depending on the services needed, the program provides After School Care, and for those kindergarteners who get out of school mid-day, Camp Kindergarten. 

The program encourages self-awareness and community, and offers a veritable treasure trove of kid-amusement in a inviting and fun atmosphere. The After School program provides sports & outdoor activities, music, dance, drama, and visual arts. Recreational leaders assist with homework assignments, provide a nutritious snack, prepare social skill activities, fun projects and experiments. The After School program is a life-enriching program that takes place in a fun and safe recreational environment.

The annual registration fee is $60 and can be done online. You will receive confirmation of registration in your email. Prior to the start of school parents and guardians will receive a text message inviting them to download Brightwheel. This app is where all weekly payments and communication correcspondences will be made. Payments are due in advance  before 3:00 pm Friday for the prior week. Please note there is an additional child discount of 10% off. No credit or refunds are given for any absences, holidays, snow days, non-school days, etc. No extra charge for minimum school days. Late payment and cancellation fees may apply. All information is subject to change.
