Local Eagle Scout Completes Lifesaving AED Project at Running Springs Ball Field
Running Springs, CA — Reed Teter has successfully completed his Eagle Scout project with the installation of an outdoor public-access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) station at the Running Springs Ball Field / Caplinger Soccer Field, providing a critical lifesaving resource for the community.
The project was submitted for review and approval to Rim of the World Recreation and Park District General Manager Jenny Hueter and Programs Director Casey Stephenson Kraus during the summer of 2025. After review, the project received approval and moved forward to completion.
The newly installed AED station is fully self-contained and designed for public outdoor use. It features a sealed and secure base, minimal maintenance requirements, clear and easy-to-follow instructions, and an alert system that notifies authorities if the unit is used or tampered with. The station ensures rapid access to lifesaving equipment during medical emergencies at games, practices, and community events.
According to information received by the Park District’s insurance provider, AED stations may become mandatory in the future at recreational facilities and public spaces, making this project both timely and forward-thinking.
Reed, whose family has long participated in sports and recreational programs on the mountain, was inspired to pursue the project after spending time at local ball fields.
“Whether it’s during a game, a practice, or a family event, I want everyone to feel safer knowing that this equipment is available if it’s ever needed,” said Teter. “My hope is that this project will make a lasting and positive impact on the community.”
Funding for the AED station was raised through the Save Station Crowdfunding Campaign, allowing the project to be completed without cost to the Park District.
In recognition of his efforts and community service, Reed Teter will be honored as a Recreational Hero at the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District Board Meeting on March 23, 2026.
