Current Recreation Programs and Activities   

• Youth Chess Classes – at Robert Hootman Community Center, Running Springs, CA

• RIMREC Youth Tumbling Program Monday at the NEW Activity Loft in Rimforest and Wednesdays at the Presbyterian Church Gym. Program Starts Monday, September 29th – Registration is now open

• NEW – Barre & Pilates Fusion Class – Dance & Fitness Studio, Rimforest – Registration is now open
•  Fitness Program for Ages 5 and over – Twin Peaks Community Center - Registration is now open
•  Dance Lesson Programs with Vento Dance Co. (Classical Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Acro) – Registration is now open
• Altitude Fit Kids Programs with Altitude Aerial Fitness (Aerial Hammock, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tumbling, Combo Dance) – New Program Schedule coming January 2026

Current Projects and District News

• The Park District Office will be closed in observance of the upcoming holidays on Wednesday, November 26, Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. In addition, the office will observe its annual winter closure from Monday, December 22, 2025, through Friday, January 2, 2026. Regular business operations will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.The Park District extends warm wishes to all community members for a safe and joyful holiday season.
• At the District Office in Rimforest, a series of facility improvements is underway to enhance safety, functionality, and access to community programming. The Activity Room/Gym located directly above the Park District offices remains closed due to an active insurance claim associated with storm damage sustained in 2023. In the meantime, approved upgrade plans include roof repairs on the east wing and the former Gym/Activity Room, along with a redesigned interior layout that will create a more open and flexible environment suitable for a variety of indoor recreational uses. To expand available program space while repairs are pending, the Park District has completed renovations on the upstairs area above the former physical therapy office at 26571 State Hwy 18 in Rimforest. This in-house project involved removing interior walls, deep cleaning, applying fresh paint, and installing mirrors to convert the space into a functional activity loft. The newly renovated area is already in use, hosting the RIMREC Youth Tumbling Program and Altitude Fit Kids. Additional progress has also been made on the west wing of the District Office, where updates continue within the Rimforest Dance and Fitness Studio.
• The Rim of the World Park Fund has been established with the Inland Empire Community Foundation (IECF) in order to raise awareness and fund special projects to enhance and possibly build more recreational opportunities for the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District community. More information is coming soon.

Districts Make the Difference   

What does that mean?  
Rim of the World Recreation and Park District is an independent special district sanctioned under California Law for the performance of local government functions. Special Districts range in size from very small to very large. The Rim of the World Recreation and Park District is a smaller Independent special district that operates on a budget of $1.162 million (only 2/3 of which is provided by a $22 annual per-parcel property tax, the remainder needing to come from use fees) yet serves a vast area of 110 square miles. What’s so special? Focused services. Special Districts like the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District were formed to deliver specific public services within defined boundaries for communities who want local control.

Responsibility to Provide a Wide Variety of Services
Since the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District is located in a resort area, our services are not limited to just locals and/or permanent residents or part-time residents, but to all who visit the mountain communities. Even those residents who are not located within our boundaries, but who own property in our mountain community can benefit from the use of our services. Unlike other Special Districts, our mandate and the services provided have resulted in a great range of opportunities for public recreation.

Benefits of Special Districts
According to the State Legislative Analyst, independent special districts have consistently shown the slowest rate of spending growth for local governments. We believe this is due to the high degree of accountability to the public and to the specific nature of the services provided by special districts. In the case of the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District, it’s due also to our fixed-rate tax source that does not adjust for inflation but must be supplemented by increasing efficiency and other measures. The Rim of the World Recreation and Park District is considered an independent special district because we are directly accountable to our constituents, not another layer of local government and have an elected board that sets policy.
