A week long camp starting July 8th through the 12th, designed to provide young people the opportunity to experiment and express themselves through the arts. CPR/AED & FIRST AID PROGRAMS

This class will teach CPR basics for adult, child and infant, foreign body airway obstruction and rescue breathing. You will learn both 1-rescuer and 2-rescuer methods. Participants that complete the course satisfactorily will receive a card from the American Heart Association. This card will be valid for 2 years. Pre-registration is required as class size is limited.

Heartsaver First Aid will teach basic first aid skills for shock, bleeding, broken bones, sprains, stroke, seizures, choking, burns, bites, stings and more. This program will also teach signs of common emergencies. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Heartsaver First Aid card from the American Heart Association.

Pre-Ballet & Creative Movement

Pre-ballet and Creative Movement introduces your little dancer to ballet and other dance genres, using methods designed for young minds and bodies. Students begin to work on body alignment and posture, development of the feet and turnout as well as creative movement exercises. The class introduces basic vocabulary, skills and concepts of dance movement and encourages self-expression.  Class sizes are limited and pre-registered is required.

Beginning Ballet & Tap is a program that will introduce your child to the fundamentals of classical ballet and tap dance. Your child will learn basic ballet positions, steps and techniques through beginning barre exercises and center floor combination that include a variety of turns, leaps and jumps. Beginning/Intermediate Ballet provides a continued reinforcement of the fundamentals of classical ballet with an emphasis on correct body alignment and other preparatory work necessary for the establishment of a sound technical foundation. This program provides further development of knowledge, skills, vocabulary and abilities through regular practice and in the history of ballet. This program requires a minimum of 2 years of previous ballet training. Class size is limited and pre-registered is required.  Ballet shoes are the responsibility of the participant.

Primary Ballet I & II teaches basic ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance and flexibility. Belly Dancing will teach you to share the correct way of this beautiful art form with others. Explore the dance and rhythms of the Near and Middle East as you develop techniques. Introduction to Tap, Ballet & Tumbling

 Dance and tumbling are excellent forms of exercise. These classes are taught in a positive non-competitive manner and are designed to encourage self-expression and confidence through creative movement. Hip Hop Dance is upbeat form of dance that combines a wide varitey of genres including freestyle. THis high-energetic class will teach basic hip-hop movements, combinations and techniquest to beginners. In addition to learning rhythm and precision, this class will assit with coordingation and confidence. Each class starts with a warm-up, streches and wall-to-wall exercises. The class then progresses to choreography (skills that include basic tutting, popping, locking and isolations as well as fluid tranistions and how to string movements together). Class ends with an opportunity to try your freestyle moves in a positive atmospher. All music is age appropriate.

Intermediate Jazz’s objective is to teach an emotional and physical connection to music with exposure to different styles of jazz. This class will focus on learning proper jazz technique, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with tradition jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. At least two years of previous jazz training is required. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Tap I

Tap I will improve your child’s rhythm, coordination, musicality and timing.  This highly energetic program teaches basic tap steps and combinations with a focus on total body movement, technical correctness and performance quality through a variety of stationary and traveling combinations as well as choreographed routines. Additionally, an introduction of musical theory will be incorporated.  This program introduces beginning skills and exercises (i.e. taps, shuffles, chugs, scuffs, stomps, ball changes, cramp rolls, kicks, flaps), and will progress to a variety of time steps, riffs and combinations (i.e Buffalo, Cincinnati, Maxi Ford, Draw Backs, Jump-Toe, Manhattan, Shirley Temple, Shim-Sham).  Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

GYMNASTICS' YOUTH PROGRAMS Winter/Spring 2013

The re-designed Gymnastics Program for girls and boys now offers multi-level classes (pre-level through Level 5) that teach a variety of skills with an emphasis on (1) floor (rolls, cartwheels, round offs, walkovers, etc.), (2) power tumbling/pre-vault (head and handsprings), and (3) balance beam (female) and parallel bar (male) skills.  Other apparatus include single bar & mini-ring.  Classes are taught in a fun, non-competitive and positive manner and assist with improving self-confidence, agility, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility as well as other gross motor skills.  Additional skills include: jumps, bridges, splits, head and handstands. Sensational Moves with Mandy

Sensational Moves with Mandy provides a way for children to explore their senses through movement in a fun and functional way. This program provides sensory experiences through play. Participants will engage in physical activities while simultaneously develpong strengh, balance, coordination, posture and body awareness as well as social skills. This program is also designed for parents to help engage their children in these types of experiences in an organized, participative and fun enviornment. SELF-DEFENSE

Japanese Karate – Do

Japanese Karate-Do is an art form where you learn basic and advanced techniques of SHITO-RYU KARATE, including various blocks, strikes, kicks, sweeps, throws, take downs, choke holds, joint locks, pressure points and counter moves. You will also learn the various karas (forms) and kumite (sparring) as well as self-defense for street encounters. The benefits of this training are good health, flexibility, strength, conditioning, balance, discipline and self-confidence all while learning this traditional form of self-defense. Pre-registration is required as class size is limited.
